Pakistani Dress Designs 2011 Biography
With an international degree in fashion marketing and design, Sara Shahid has been designing since 1998 and has come to be regarded as a connoisseur of craft, an acclaimed entrepreneur and as a fashion icon in her own right. She introduced her independent label Sublime by Sara in 2003 to Pakistan.
An advocate of simplicity and minimalism, Sara’s design ethos particularly emphasizes colour, tailored cut, comfort, drape and intricate embellishment. The results are classic outfits with unassuming, understated glamour. According to Sara, “the emphasis of my design has always been on clean, flowing lines. I design a classic, fuss free design. The cut and embellishment complement each other in symmetry and design.”
Speaking about her inspiration as a fashion designer, Sara Shahid has said, “My philosophy has always been based on the beauty of the cut and exploring the depth that lies within a minimalist design. I don’t believe in overly embellished clothing, I feel it’s a fine balance of cut, colour, drape and embellishment. I like to create harmony – to encourage co-existence. My design aesthetic has been always based on the power of the understated which incorporates worldly fashion while maintaining a distinct vision of Eastern style.” Indeed Sara was awarded for her design aesthetic with the coveted Libas ‘Less Is More’ fashion award at the prestigious PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week.
The Sublime fashion house features five lines; ‘Sublime Sara’ – prêt a porter which includes eastern and western wear; ‘Sublime Divine’ – couture based and bridals ensembles; ‘Sublime Women Entrepreneur Project’ – pieces handcrafted by women who possess skill, but lack the opportunity of being able to pursue a career beyond their homes. Indeed the concept translates into social responsibility, of which Sara Shahid is a loyal supporter; ‘Fab Sublime’ – limited edition screen printed chiffon, cotton and georgette with a ready to wear line from the same fabric and ‘Sublime-T’ – limited edition, eco-friendly t shirts. Sublime also introduces limited edition seasonal accessories which have previously included leather bags, belts and printed shawls.
Sara’s design expertise and versatility have enabled her to share her talent both within Pakistan and abroad, where she assumes the role of a fashion ambassador and makes a concerted effort to promote a progressive image of Pakistan.
